Meeting Minutes — Board of Directors Meeting, January 2008
January 8, 2008; 8:30 am, Wakota CAER Office.

Meeting Called to Order
- Mike Thompson called the meeting to order
Approval of December Minutes
- Bill Freischel motioned to approve the November minutes, seconded by Bill Whillock, motion passed.
Old Business
- Web Site Management — Mike Pliml — It took longer to turn over the old site to the new site than anticipated. An email with directions and a password to view the new site will be sent out. Board members were asked to look at other CAER sites — especially Toronto Canada for suggestions for the Wakota CAER new website. There is no internet hook up in the conference room to view it by the board. Will look into the possibility someone bringing in a computer that would be wireless. Also, Mike Thompson still has the action item to check out the possibility for Wakota CAER to purchase a projector.
- Membership Renewals for 2008 — Colleen Stelmach — membership renewal notices were sent out in late December. Board members are asked to forward names, addresses, etc. of businesses / organizations / government entities to the Wakota CAER office for an "invitation" to join to be sent. Pete Herpst suggested the Prescott and River Falls, Wisconsin fire departments and Wisconsin DNR; information will be forwarded to office.
New Business

Committee Reports
- Community Awareness — Kim Woldengren
- Kim has started reviewing the Wakota CAER information packets as to what could be updated / added. Colleen Stelmach will send electronic copies to Kim of the documents included in the packets.
- Planning Committee — Pete Herpst
- Speaker for February possibly the Salvation Army or the Red Cross. March — Coast Guard; April — luncheon, Rocco Forte, City of Minneapolis Emergency Response Office, Topic — The 35W Bridge Collapse; May — Army 55th Support Team; June — Xcel Plant Tour; July — open; Aug — River Cruise; Sep and Oct are open; Nov — Todd Kraus, NOA; and Dec is open. Possible other speakers contacted — State Duty Officer, Corps of Engineers, and MPCA enforcement. Note — the March meeting conflicts with the Governor's Conference.
- April Luncheon — Emily White will bring the menu selections to the next meeting, at next meeting will also look over last year's program, guest list and establish time line for awards.
- Training and Exercise Committee — Hans Neve
- Boom School — it was decided to have the same schedule as last year — June hold one 2 day school geared for new students and July hold two 1-day refresher schools. Marathon potentially has 10 students and Flint Hills 5-6. Will again have the 3-tier registration, River Cooperative members first, then Wakota CAER members and third open to outside. With the number of possible students from Marathon and Flint Hills, will look into the possibility of having a 3rd session of classes if instructors are available.
- Radios — there are system changes and the radios need to be re-programmed. MPCA will collect, send them to MNDoT for reprogramming and then return.
Announcements
- AMSTEP Committee — Pete Herpst, FHR and Marathon are members, primarily involvement is by the Coast Guard.
- Governor's Conference [Homeland Security / Emergency Management] — Feb 11-13 at the Northland Inn, Brochure and Website not yet posted.
